Helping Every Child Experience Camp Life with Christ

We believe every child should have the opportunity to experience the joy, growth, and Christ-centered community that camp provides.

Fair Haven’s Scholarship Program exists to help families who have a genuine financial need and do not have other sources of financial assistance available to them. Because our scholarship funds are limited and generously provided by donors, we want to steward these resources carefully so we can help as many children as possible experience Camp Life with Christ.

Scholarships may provide up to $520 per camper, depending on financial need and available funding.

Before You Apply

  1. Contact your local/home Church
Many churches set aside funds specifically to help children attend camp. We encourage families to contact their home church first to ask whether assistance is available. If your church chooses to sponsor your child’s camp experience, checks may be mailed to Fair Haven or sent with your child. Please include the camper’s name in the memo line.

  2. Ask Family or Friends
Grandparents, family members, and friends may also want to help make camp possible. We encourage families to consider these resources when planning for camp expenses.

Families who have access to another source of financial assistance should pursue that assistance before applying for a Fair Haven scholarship.

Foster & Newly Adopted Children

The State of Maine pays for many foster or newly adopted children to attend summer camp.

Please contact your child’s caseworker about this opportunity. Once your caseworker confirms funding, they should email us at register@fairhavencamps.org We will then provide a registration code that bypasses the $50 deposit.

Note: Because Fair Haven receives state payment after summer, automated payment reminders may still appear until the balance is received.

Important Information

  • The $50 registration fee is required for each camper's registration.

  • Scholarships are intended for families who have a demonstrated financial need and do not have other available sources of financial assistance.

  • Scholarship applications are reviewed based on financial need and available scholarship funds. Scholarships are donor-supported and are only awarded when funds are available.

  • Please prayerfully consider the full amount your family is able to contribute. Payment plans are available through the registration process to help families manage the cost of camp.

  • Scholarship awards may be up to $520 per camper, but the actual award amount will vary based on individual need and available funds.

  • Families with multiple children will receive tiered scholarship amounts for additional campers.

  • Scholarships may only be applied toward camp tuition.

  • If your camper is attending a specialty camp, such as Horse Camp, the family is responsible for paying the difference between the scholarship award and the specialty camp tuition.

Multiple Weeks & Other Financial Assistance

Because scholarship funds are limited, Fair Haven scholarships cannot be combined with other sources of financial assistance to provide multiple weeks of camp at no cost to a family.

If a camper receives financial assistance through DHHS, a church sponsorship, another organization, or another scholarship program, that assistance must be disclosed during the registration process.

Families are welcome to attend multiple weeks of camp when space is available. However, a Fair Haven scholarship will not be used to cover additional weeks when another source of financial assistance is being used to cover the camper’s camp expenses.

For example: If a church, DHHS, or another organization pays for one or more weeks of camp, any additional weeks the family chooses to attend must be paid for by the family or through other funding obtained by the family. Fair Haven scholarship funds cannot be used to make additional weeks free when outside assistance is already available.

This policy allows us to use our limited scholarship funds responsibly and ensure that they remain available for families who truly have no other means of financial assistance.

Please Be Honest About Other Assistance

When applying for a Fair Haven scholarship, families are asked to disclose any financial assistance they have received or are seeking for their camper.

Receiving outside assistance does not necessarily mean your family is ineligible for a Fair Haven scholarship; however, we need to know about all available assistance in order to determine how Fair Haven scholarship funds can best be used.

Fair Haven reserves the right to adjust or decline a scholarship award when other sources of financial assistance are available.
